Govt directed to ensure prison security

KATHMANDU, March 14: The Public Affairs Committee of the Legislative-Parliament on Monday instructed the government to immediately manage the security system of prisons.



The Committee also directed the Home Ministry to avail security instruments if necessary to ensure secure system of monitoring and screening of visitors and inmates in jails.[break]



The instructions came following the Central Jail shoot-out in which a visitor tried to murder an inmate in the visitor’s lounge.



The committee on Sunday heard that top officials emphasizing on urgent need for infrastructural and managerial reforms in all the jails including need of security devices.



The committee also instructed Home Secretary Govind Prasad Kusum, who was present at the meeting, to submit a progress status report on the implementation of the prison reform report prepared by the committee within 15 days.
