Paying a courtesy call to Prime Minister Oli after arriving in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Swaraj said that India is eager to welcome him and was making necessary preparations for his visit, informed the prime minister's foreign affairs advisor Gopal Khanal.
Prime Minister Oli is expected to visit India on a tentative five-day schedule starting from February 19.
According to Khanal, PM Oli informed Swaraj that his government was also making necessary preparations for his visit and will soon make a formal visit to India.
“The prime minister also informed the visiting Indian leaders that the new constitution has already addressed all the demands of the agitating Madhes-based parties and that the differences was only on interpretation of some of the provisions, which can be resolved through dialogues,” said Khanal.
Swaraj arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday leading an all-party delegation to pay last tributes to former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala. She was accompanied by Indian leaders Anand Sharma, Sharad Yadav, Sitaram Yechury and Ajit Doyal.
Prime Minister Oli expressed gratitude to Swaraj and the visiting leaders for coming to Nepal to pay tribute to Koirala. “The prime minister said that the visit from India in this tragic hour also shows India is a true friend of Nepal,” said Khanal, adding, “PM Oli also briefed the Indian delegates about the decisions taken by the emergency cabinet meeting held on Tuesday morning in honor of former prime minister Koirala.”
Khanal said that Swaraj expressed hope that supplies of emergency goods will gradually come to normalcy with the end of the blockade along Nepal-India border points.
Meanwhile, the all-party delegation from India led by Swaraj also paid a courtesy call to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Tuesday. In the meeting, Swaraj expressed gratitude to President Bhandari for meeting with the Indian delegates even when the country is mourning the death of former prime minister Koirala.
