Subba released on date, suspended

KATHMANDU, Dec 20: Police on Thursday released Devendra Subba, senior officer at Nepal Food Corporation (NFC), who had been kept in judicial custody for four days on the charge of embezzling more than Rs 5.5 million collected from rice sales.

Chudamani Sharma, chief district officer of Kathmandu said Subba was released on the condition to report when called after he deposited the “embezzled amount” in NFC´s account. [break]

Meanwhile, a board meeting of NFC held on Thursday has decided to suspend Subba for sixty days. “As per the employee regulations of NFC, we have decided to suspend him to pave the way for taking futher action against him,” said Ananda Bahadur Chand, chairman of NFC.

A panel formed to monitor the operations of Public Enterprises (PEs) under the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS) has found Subba´s involvement in embezzling the fund.

A panel led by Under Secretary Deepak Pandey had carried out investigation into the alleged irregularity after an internal audit of NFC implicated Subba in the embezzlement of the amount.

Police had arrested Subba on Sunday. District Administration Office, Kathmandu had issued arrest warrant against Subba at the request of NFC.
