KATHMANDU, July 15: Professor Bhagwan Koirala, executive Director at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) on Monday becomes emotional while delivering speech on 31 anniversary of the hospital.

His throat was struck, and speech becomes emotional, when he talked about the hard times of the recent past of the hospital.

Expressing disappointment with TU authority for not fulfilling its commitments, Dr Koirala had resigned from the post of director, which he later withdrew after the government and the TU officials fulfilled some of his key demands.[break]

Speaking at the anniversary function held at hospital premises, Dr Koirala informed that the hospital´s earnings increased by Rs 100 million compared to last year. The additional profit was generated in the last six months. The hospital had generated Rs 360 million in revenue last year.

Dr Koirala said that the hospital´s revenue will cross Rs 500 million in the next fiscal year.

"It is a good news that we do not have to ask grant from the government and the TU for salaries of our staff," he said at the program. The hospital in the past had to seek financial assistance from dean´s office to pay the salaries to its staffers.

Dr Koirala informed that the hospital will purchase advance equipment worth Rs 220 millions provided by the government. The government has allocated Rs 280 million special grant to the hospital in the budget.

"Patients need not have to go to other places for treatment after we bring the advance equipments," he said, adding, "We are on the path of becoming a center of excellence."

The hospital provided services to 4,24,000 patients in the last 11 months. Out of them 11,000 received major and minor surgeries services. About 1,500 employees have been serving at the hospital.
