KATHMANDU, Nov 4: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader and House of Representatives member Gyanendra Shahi has described the government’s decision to remove Nepal Police Inspector General (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki as a gross abuse of state power.

Shahi criticised the decision after Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting removed Karki as police chief and appointed him as the prime minister’s special security adviser.

In a social media post, Shahi said taking action against the police chief for personal interests was wrong.

“If the IGP has committed a crime, he should face legal action and be sent to prison in accordance with the law, not be appointed as the prime minister’s adviser,” he wrote.

He added, “If the IGP has committed no wrongdoing and has not acted against the law, taking action against him for personal interests amounts to a gross abuse of state power and corrupt conduct.”

The government has decided to reassign Karki as the prime minister’s special security adviser and promote AIG Dr Manoj Kumar KC to fill the vacant post of IGP.
