Youth leaders of the Gen Z movement have asserted that the September 8–9 protests will define Nepal’s democratic future, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s political trajectory.

According to the District Police Office, Baitadi, 29-year-old Naresh Mahara of Surnaya Rural Municipality–4 died at the scene.

The protests that began at Maitighar had reached Baneshwar, where demonstrators attempted to enter the Parliament building. It was at this point that Kathmandu CDO Rijal had issued the order to open fire.

Issuing a notice on Friday, the EC invited parties to file applications from December 7 (10 AM) to December 10 (4 PM).

A group of prominent civil society leaders has called on all stakeholders including the government to ensure that the upcoming national elections are held on the scheduled date, warning that any delay could push the country towards prolonged instability.

Adhikari was arrested by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Wednesday and a corruption case was filed at the Special Court the same day.

The recommendation committee had initially issued a notice from November 2 to 16, which was later extended to November 21.
