KATHMANDU, Nov 16: Although 4 months of the current fiscal year have already passed, 24 local units in Madhesh Province have still not presented their budgets. Across the country, 728 local units have presented their budgets so far, but 25 are yet to do so.
149 local units miss budget presentation deadline
The constitution requires the federal government to present its budget on May 29, provincial governments on June 15, and local units on June 24 each year. In Madhesh Province, 112 out of 136 local units have presented their budgets, but 24 remain pending even after the first quarter has ended.
According to the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, Rajbiraj Municipality, Agnisair Krishnasavaran Rural Municipality, Balan Bihul Rural Municipality and Kalyanpur Municipality of Saptari have not presented their budgets.
In Siraha and Dhanusha, Dhangadhimai Municipality, Sukhipur Municipality, Kshireshwar Municipality, Nagarain Municipality, Aurahi Rural Municipality, Kamala Municipality and Janaknandini Rural Municipality have not submitted budgets for the current year.
Likewise, Dhanoji Rural Municipality of Dhanusha, Sonama Rural Municipality of Mahottari, Malangwa Municipality, Hariwan Municipality, Chandranagar and Ramanagar rural municipalities of Sarlahi, Kathariya Municipality, Dewahi Gonahi Municipality, Fatuwa Bijaypur Municipality, Yamunamai Rural Municipality of Rautahat, Mahagadimai Municipality, Bishrampur Rural Municipality of Bara, and Pakaha Mainpur Rural Municipality of Parsa have not presented their budgets.
In Lumbini Province, Shuddhodhan Rural Municipality has also failed to submit its budget for the current fiscal year.
