KATHMANDU, May 24: A total of 70 people have died in 1,342 disaster-related incidents reported across the country since the beginning of the Nepali year 2083.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the incidents occurred over the past 40 days, leaving 333 people injured.
Authority spokesperson Shanti Mahat said the highest number of deaths, 16, were caused by altitude sickness, followed by lightning strikes with 14 deaths and fires with 11.

Similarly, nine people died in windstorms, eight in animal attacks, five from snakebites, two in landslides, and two in boat capsizing incidents. One person each died in wildfire, flood and avalanche-related incidents.
The authority said 1,621 families have been affected by the disasters.
In terms of the number of incidents, fires accounted for the highest share with 488 cases reported. Windstorms followed with 230 incidents, while 139 lightning-related incidents and 105 snakebite cases were recorded.
Mahat said three people died in disaster-related incidents in the last 24 hours alone.
The authority also reported 32 incidents in the past day, injuring 13 people and causing losses worth more than Rs 17 million.
The country is currently entering the monsoon season, with floods and landslides affecting some areas while heatwaves continue in others. Eastern Nepal saw severe flooding in several districts today, disrupting many areas.
