KATHMANDU, Sept 28: Shram Sanskriti Party lawmaker Dhurbaraj Rai has urged the government to take serious steps to address the country's problems.
Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday, Rai said lawmakers had been waiting for the prime minister’s response since the August 26 incident.
He urged the prime minister, through the Speaker, to come to Parliament and respond to questions regarding the incident.

“We faced the biggest disaster in more than a decade on the 26th. We all took the matter seriously. It has now been a month and two days, and we have been waiting for the prime minister’s response with questions. We all stood together during that difficult time. I hope the head of government will now come and answer us,” he said.
Rai also said 21 people had died, five were missing and five were injured in the recent rainfall-related incidents. He expressed condolences to the victims and urged the government to intensify the search for those missing and ensure proper treatment for the injured.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s recent actions, Rai accused it of treating serious matters lightly by repeatedly arresting and releasing individuals. Referring to the arrests and subsequent releases of Bharat Dahal and Cholendra Shumsher Rana, he urged the government to handle such matters seriously.
“If the issue is serious, the government must deal with it seriously. Otherwise, I would like to draw the government’s attention through the Speaker to the basis on which it is carrying out such activities,” he said.
Rai also expressed concern over growing shortages, frustration and incidents of suicide among the public, urging the government to identify their causes and seek solutions.
He said the government and Parliament risked creating an environment in which public dissatisfaction would continue to grow and called for people’s concerns to be addressed seriously.
Although his party is in opposition, Rai said it was ready to support the government on issues requiring cooperation.
