KATHMANDU, Oct. 31: Transport services on several national highways have been disrupted by floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall since Thursday.

According to the Department of Roads (DoR), floods and landslides have brought traffic to a complete halt on several road sections, including the BP, Prithvi, Karnali, Mid-Hill (Madhyapahadi) and Kanti highways. The DoR reported that debris and sediment have accumulated on the roads and floods have washed away several road sections.

The BP Highway is completely obstructed at Pinthali (Ward No. 9) and Gimdibesi (Ward No. 8) in Roshi Rural Municipality, Kavre. Traffic has been halted following a flood carrying stones, soil and debris from a local stream, Khahare Khola.

The Prithvi Highway is also completely blocked at Parewabhir (Ward No. 2) in Gajuri Rural Municipality, Dhading. Similarly, the Karnali Highway is obstructed at Aulise (Ward No. 7) in Barahatal Rural Municipality, Surkhet.

A landslide has also occurred on the Mid-Hill Highway at Lakuridanda (Ward No. 1) in Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, Khotang. Rainfall triggered a landslide that deposited mud and debris, completely blocking a road section approximately 15 metres long.

Vehicular movement is currently normal on the Makwanpur section of the Kanti Highway. However, the road is obstructed by landslides in areas such as Chhapeli in Lalitpur.

Similarly, landslides have occurred on the Kanti Lokpath in the Pangdur and Tarkuche areas. Traffic is also obstructed at various points along the Maldhunga-Beni-Jomsom road, which leads to Mustang. Landslides and other rain-related disruptions have been reported in areas including Lamakhet, Mahabir, Kagbeni, Chhusang and Chhoser.

On the Jomsom-Korala road section, a flood has washed away approximately 20 metres of the road at Chaile in Ward No. 3 of Baragung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality, Mustang. The section is now completely blocked due to damage caused by the increased water flow.

Traffic has also been halted in the Rakse area of the Kaligandaki Corridor due to a landslide. Mud and debris have fallen onto the road, making it impassable.

The Nagma-Gamgadhi road is obstructed at Talcha, in Ward No. 7 of Chhayanath Rara Municipality, Mugu.

The DoR stated that it has mobilized the relevant division offices to clear the blocked highways. Efforts are underway to restore road access as soon as possible, with the necessary equipment and personnel deployed to remove landslide debris and resume traffic movement.
