KATHMANDU, Oct 5: Youth political analyst and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Shankar Tiwari has announced his candidacy for the post of general secretary at the party’s 15th General Convention.
Tiwari made the announcement at a press conference on Sunday, saying he was contesting on an ideological platform aimed at defending the party’s core principles and strengthening democracy. “The Nepali Congress is an idea. I am contesting to defend the party’s ideology. Democracy cannot survive without questioning. I have decided to contest with a clear ideological perspective,” he said.

Tiwari is a general convention representative from Nawalpur-2. He had contested for the Central Working Committee (CWC) at the party’s 14th General Convention and is associated with the faction that supported the special general convention.
The NC began its 15th General Convention in Kathmandu on Sunday under the leadership of President Gagan Thapa. The convention is expected to elect a new leadership team, including the general secretary, as the party seeks to consolidate its organisation following a period of internal division.
