KAVRE, Sept 24: Authorities have halted vehicle movement on the Kavrepalanchok section of the BP Highway at night for four days due to the risk of floods and landslides amid forecasts of heavy rainfall.
According to Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari, the Monsoon Response Command Post decided to stop traffic on the highway from 5 pm to 5 am from Thursday, Sept 24, until 5 am on Monday, Sept 28.
The restriction aims to reduce the risk of accidents and casualties as heavy rainfall is forecast from Thursday through Sunday.

The meeting also authorized the District Police Office, Kavrepalanchok, to halt daytime traffic if an assessment of rainfall and flood conditions shows that continued vehicle movement poses a risk.
Authorities have also requested the chief district officers of Sindhuli and Bhaktapur to facilitate implementation of the decision.
The administration has directed authorities to keep residents living along riverbanks and in landslide-prone areas informed about potential floods and landslides and to strengthen early-warning dissemination through local media.
The Nepali Army’s Shree Mehar Battalion, District Police Office Kavrepalanchok and Armed Police Force Nepal No. 15 Battalion Headquarters have been instructed to keep rescue teams on standby at various locations.
Authorities will remain in contact with local disaster management committees to coordinate rescue and emergency response.
The administration has urged residents in high-risk areas to stay alert to early warnings and avoid travelling through risky areas unless necessary.
