In a message on social media on Saturday, she said the young woman from Badhaiyatal 4 in Dakshin Bakhari lost her life while fighting for citizenship, and her 61-year-old father died a month later.

She said the incident is a matter of shame for both society and the state. She added that if this situation arose because of legal or administrative hurdles, she apologizes as the head of government.

Karki said she has instructed the Home Minister to investigate the case in detail. She stressed that discrimination or violence based on gender, including in matters of citizenship, cannot be tolerated, and all sides must support the path to justice.
