UDAYAPUR, Sept 22: Police have seized 182 kilograms of marijuana from a forest area in Katari Municipality-6 of Udayapur district.
The marijuana was recovered from bushes in the forest area of the Shikhar Community Forest Users Group on Monday night, according to the District Police Office, Udayapur. The area is the same location where large quantities of marijuana were seized twice in recent days.
Acting on a tip-off that marijuana had been hidden in the forest, a team from the Area Police Office, Katari, conducted a search and found nine sacks wrapped in plastic and left unattended in the bushes.
Police said they have yet to determine who owned the marijuana or where it had been brought from. No individuals involved in transporting the marijuana were found at the site, and police are searching for those responsible.
Police destroy marijuana in Udayapur
Seven days ago, an Armed Police Force team from the Katari base camp seized 130 kilograms of marijuana from another community forest in Katari-6. Three weeks earlier, police from the Area Police Office, Katari, had seized 1,122 kilograms of marijuana hidden in the same forest area.
Police have yet to establish the source of the marijuana being brought into the forest. They suspect traffickers may be hiding marijuana in the forest while transporting it from the hills toward the Tarai districts of Saptari and Siraha, intending to move it across the district border once conditions are favorable and avoid detection by security personnel.
Police said an investigation is underway and expressed confidence that those involved will eventually be arrested.
