UN General Assembly adopts resolutions in favor of Palestine

The United Nations General Assembly on Friday adopted -by an overwhelming majority- a set of resolutions in favor of Palestine, including the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

NEW YORK, Dec 5: The United Nations General Assembly on Friday adopted -by an overwhelming majority- a set of resolutions in favor of Palestine, including the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).



The first resolution, concerning assistance to Palestinian refugees, was supported by 151 countries, with 10 voting against and 14 abstaining. The second resolution, regarding the operations of UNRWA and renewing its mandate for three years, was supported by 145 countries, with 10 voting against and 18 abstaining.


The third resolution, concerning the property of Palestinian refugees and the revenues derived from it, was supported by 157 countries, with 10 voting against and 9 abstaining.

The fourth resolution, concerning the work of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories, was adopted by a vote of 88 in favor, 19 against, and 64 abstentions.


The fifth resolution, concerning Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan, was adopted by a vote of 146 in favor.


UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini welcomed the overwhelming vote by the UN General Assembly to renew UNRWA’s mandate for three years, emphasizing that the resolution reflects broad global solidarity with Palestine refugees.


In a statement, the UN official added that the resolution represents an acknowledgment of the international community’s responsibility to support the humanitarian and human development needs of Palestine refugees, stressing the need for this vote to be translated into a genuine commitment and the provision of the necessary resources to ensure the fulfillment of this mandate.
