KATHMANDU, Nov 1: The 132 kV Keraun Substation in Kanepokhari Rural Municipality-2, Morang, has officially come into operation, marking a major step toward improving electricity supply in the district and surrounding areas.
The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) brought the substation into operation on Sunday by connecting it to the Duhabi-Damak 132 kV transmission line through a loop-in, loop-out (LILO) arrangement.
Built at an estimated cost of Rs 1 billion, the substation has a total capacity of 148.5 MVA. It is equipped with two 132/33 kV power transformers, each with a capacity of 63 MVA, and one 33/11 kV transformer with a capacity of 22.5 MVA.

NEA Executive Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha said the substation would help meet growing electricity demand, strengthen the distribution network and ensure a more reliable and quality power supply in Morang and neighboring areas.
Two 33 kV transmission lines have been constructed to distribute electricity toward Rangeli and Biratchok. Five additional 11 kV feeder lines have also been arranged for local distribution. The 33 kV lines are expected to become operational before Tihar, while the 11 kV feeders will be charged shortly.
The project is expected to benefit Kanepokhari, Rangeli, Biratchok, Letang and surrounding areas. By shortening existing long-distance distribution lines, the substation will help improve voltage levels, reduce frequent power interruptions and minimize technical electricity losses.
The construction contract was signed in July 2021. The project was funded through investments from the Government of Nepal and NEA, along with a concessional loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
