Mecca, one of Islam’s holiest sites, has been a major pilgrimage destination for Muslims for centuries. Muslims believe that the Quran was revealed to Muhammad in Mecca, where he preached the teachings of Islam.
While Jerusalem is also regarded as a holy city in Islam, visiting Mecca at least once in a lifetime is a cherished aspiration for Muslims who are physically and financially able to undertake the pilgrimage.
Muhammad’s teachings continue to be commemorated for their profound impact on Islam. To mark the occasion, a public gathering is being held today, along with special programmes at the Nepali Jame Masjid, Kashmiri Jama Masjid and various other locations.
