274 newly elected lawmakers sworn in, 61 take oath in mother tongues

KATHMANDU, March 26: All 274 newly elected members of the House of Representatives took the oath of office and secrecy on Thursday.



The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Federal Parliament building in Singha Durbar, where senior-most member Arjun Narasingh KC administered the oath.

KC, 78, had himself taken the oath before President Ram Chandra Paudel on Wednesday. He administered the oath to 273 lawmakers from six political parties and one independent member.


Among those sworn in, 182 are from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, 39 from the Nepali Congress, 25 from the CPN-UML, 17 from the CPN, seven from the Janamat Party, five from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and one independent lawmaker.


According to Federal Parliament Secretariat spokesperson Ekram Giri, 61 lawmakers took the oath in their respective mother tongues.


Following the ceremony, lawmakers were provided with official logos by the Secretariat. The entire oath-taking event was completed in just seven minutes.
