KATHMANDU, Sept 18: The Nepali Congress and its sister organizations, as well as well-wishers, are observing the 29th memorial day of Ganesh Man Singh, the Supreme Commander of the 1990 People's Movement, by organizing a variety of programs.
Born on Kartik 24, 1972 BS, in Chhetrapati, Kathmandu, leader Singh passed away on Ashwin 2, 2054 BS. He had actively participated in the campaign to overthrow the Rana regime as a member of the then Praja Parishad.

After successfully escaping from Bhadragol Jail prior to 2007 BS, Singh traveled to India and forged a political partnership with fellow leader B.P. Koirala. He led the Nepali Rashtriya Congress, which had been established in 2003 BS.
As a key figure in the Revolution of 2007 BS aimed at establishing democracy, he engaged in armed struggle at the Birgunj front.
Having served as a senior minister in the government formed after the first general election in 2015 BS, he spent eight years in captivity at Singhadurbar and Sundarijal Prison after democracy was usurped in 2017 BS.
Following his release from Sundarijal Prison alongside B.P. in 2025 BS, he expanded political organization while in exile. In 2033 BS, he returned to Nepal with B.P., adopting the policy of national unity and reconciliation, and remained active in the struggle against the Panchayat system.
