KATHMANDU, Aug 20: The Dhanusha Survey Office has distributed land ownership certificates (lalpurja) to 310 families in Mithila Bihari Municipality-3, nearly 10 years after the completion of a land survey.

The survey of swabasi land in wards 1 to 9 of the former Mithileshwar Mahuwahi VDC was completed in Fiscal Year (FY) 2015/16.

Although the survey was completed, the distribution of certificates was delayed for years due to low public participation in the land registration process.

The Dhanusha Survey Office said it completed the necessary procedures for land that had previously been surveyed and mapped by the commission before distributing 310 land ownership certificates.

With the certificates, families who had long been living on the land as swabasi have now formally obtained legal ownership of their property.
