KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Traffic police have penalized 634 drivers for violating traffic rules in Kathmandu Valley over the past 24 hours.
According to Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, the drivers were penalized during routine monitoring and checks.
Among those penalized, 60 were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, 53 were identified through CCTV surveillance, 28 violated traffic signals and 93 were caught speeding.

Similarly, five drivers were penalized for honking in prohibited areas, five for violating lane discipline, 12 for operating vehicles in poor condition and five for violating one-way road rules, the office said.
Another 373 drivers were penalized for various other traffic violations.
Traffic police have continued regular checks and monitoring to maintain road discipline.
Police have urged drivers to fully comply with traffic rules and drive safely, emphasizing that following traffic rules is not only a driver’s responsibility but also essential for pedestrian safety.
