KATHMANDU, Oct 8: A total of 788 climbers from 70 countries have obtained permits to climb 31 mountain peaks in Nepal during the autumn 2026 season.
According to the Department of Tourism (DoT), the climbers are part of 91 expedition teams. Of them, 582 are men and 206 are women. The department has collected Rs 247.2 million in royalties from the climbing permits.
Mt Manaslu (8,163 meters) has attracted the highest number of climbers, with 500 climbers from 43 teams obtaining permits. The department has collected Rs 225.86 million in royalties from Manaslu expeditions.

Similarly, 36 climbers from five teams have obtained permits for Mt Dhaulagiri I, generating Rs 8.24 million in royalties. Another 34 climbers from three teams have received permits for Himlung Himal, while 19 climbers from two teams have obtained permits for Ama Dablam.
The DoT has also issued permits for peaks including Putha Hiunchuli, Danga Hiunchuli, Baruntse, Makalu, Gangapurna West (Langchenel), Thorong Peak, Norbu Khang, Annapurna IV, Chamlang, Lamjung Himal, Pumori, Saribung, Thapa Peak (Dhampus), Pokhar Khang, Ardang and Peri.
Among the 788 climbers, 118 are from China, followed by 65 from Russia, 60 from France, 52 from the US, 45 from the UK, 25 from Poland, 23 from Nepal, 23 from Italy, 25 from Japan, 18 from India, 16 from Switzerland and 16 from Spain.
The DoT said it collected $1.63 million in climbing royalties, equivalent to Rs 247.21 million.
