The distribution of rice is limited two times a week after both depots at Kolti and Martadi of Nepal Food Corporation lacked the stock. [break]
Though the rice quota allocated for Martadi depot is 6,500 quintals while for Kolti depot 4,500 quintal this year, they have hardly 500 quintal rice in total now.
Meanwhile, the Corporation has hiked the price of rice as Rs. 35.50 for a kg of Aruwa thick rice. However, it is not available here, complained Hansha Buda, a local.
All food grains produced locally have finished, indicating imminent famine, said another Man Bahadur Rokaya.
Adding woes to the people, the construction of Sanfe-Martadi road section though started 19 years ago, has not been complete. There is no alternative road connection which has triggered the problem to transport foods, said Dev Bahadur Rokaya, President at the Bajura Chamber of Commerce.
People have urged the political leaders to address the food crisis if they are to ask for votes in the election.
