All-party meeting decides to form parliamentary mechanism for effective disaster response

KATHMANDU, Sept 16: An all-party meeting convened by Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has decided to form a parliamentary mechanism representing all political parties to facilitate disaster management and flood risk reduction.



Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) parliamentary party leader Gyanendra Shahi said the meeting decided to request the Speaker of the House of Representatives to form the mechanism.

Speaking after the meeting, Shahi said the participants agreed to urge the Speaker to form a special parliamentary committee within a week, with representation from all political parties, to help reduce and manage flood risks.


The meeting was attended by RSP President Lamichhane, General Secretary Bipin Acharya and Joint General Secretary Purushottam Yadav; Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa; CPN-UML Secretary Padma Aryal; Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Co-coordinator leader and former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal; NCP leader Barshaman Pun; RPP leader Shahi; and Janamat Party Chairperson Dr CK Raut, among others.
