Investigative officials seized two Pulsar 180 motorcycles from a rental centre at Thamel Saturday and detained three persons for interrogations. The rental staff, officials said, do not appear to be aware of the purpose of those who hired the bikes. The seizures only disclosed that five persons, all seemingly Indians, showed up to negotiate the hires. [break]
Meanwhile, the gunman, whose identity as Jasjeet Singh of Lucknow, India has become doubtful because of his persistent bluffing, has told officials that the motorcycles were used with fake number plates.
Clueless Investigation
Officials said investigations look hardly likely to yield substantial findings given the lack of significant clues like cell phone numbers. Almost all major crimes over the last few years have been solved through clues in call details.
The gunman had given officials two cell phone numbers, but these turned out to be non-existent. “He has bluffed us in every possible way,” said one investigative official.
Singh´s every statement during interrogations since his arrest after the shooting at the Central Jail visiters lounge has been taken with scepticism. Officials said Singh has even said the voter ID found at his rented quarters at Bode in Bhaktapur is fake. “I am the perpetrator. So you need not even know my real name,” officials quoted him as saying.
Officials are also disappointed that possible leads relating to some major cases in the past did not turn out to be useful.
Meanwhile, Ansari, who is being treated at Norvic Hospital, has recorded a statement alleging that some police officials were involved in the shooting incident.
12-year sentence
The Indian contract killer will be jailed for 12 years as he is going to be prosecuted for attempted murder, invoking the strongest clause (No. 15) under the homicide section of the Civil Code (Muluki Aain), officials said.
