Bird flu detected in three districts of Koshi, around 85,000 fowls culled

JHAPA, April 3: Following the detection of bird flu, around 85,000 fowls were culled in three districts of Koshi Province.



Senior Livestock Development Officer at the Directorate of Livestock and Fishery Development, Biratnagar, Dr Ganga Ram Yadav shared that fowls raised in 22 commercial poultry farms of three districts were destroyed after the confirmation of bird flu (H 5N 1) infection.


Out of 14 districts in Koshi Province, bird flu has been detected in three districts—Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari.

Dr Yadav added that bird flu has been detected in eight farms of Morang, two of Jhapa and 12 of Sunsari, adding 227,000 eggs and 28,000 kilograms of poultry feed were also destroyed along with fowls. 


The Directorate has banned the export and import of poultry-products adopting high-alertness at the areas surrounding to bird flu hit farms in order to prevent further spread of the infection.
