Bus catches fire in Rautahat, no casualties reported

Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit in the bus battery wiring caused the blaze.

RAUTAHAT, Oct 22: A bus caught fire while traveling through the forest along the East-West Highway in Chandrapur Municipality–4, Rautahat, on Wednesday morning.



The bus, bearing the number plate Ba Pra 2–03–001 Kha 5555, was en route from Kathmandu to Chandrapur when the fire broke out around 7:20 AM. Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit in the bus battery wiring caused the blaze.

Upon receiving the report, a police team led by Inspector Rupesh Kumar Jha from the Area Police Office, Chandranigahapur, rushed to the scene. With the help of local residents and firefighting equipment, the fire was brought under control by around 8:15 AM.


No human casualties were reported. However, the bus was completely destroyed by the fire, resulting in losses estimated at around Rs 3.5 million.


The incident occurred approximately three kilometers west of the Area Police Office, Chandranigahapur. Traffic on both sides of the highway was temporarily blocked but has since been restored, and the situation is now reported to be normal.
