KATHMANDU, March 20: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Bimlendra Nidhi has hailed Balendra Shah’s rise as a historic political transformation.
In a social media post, Nidhi expressed happiness that, for the first time, a person of Madhesi origin is set to become prime minister. Having lost the House of Representatives election from Dhanusha-3, he shared his joy over Shah’s potential premiership rather than dwelling on his own defeat.

“Balendra Sah is now certain to become Nepal’s prime minister. For the first time, a Madhesi person will assume this role. This is a real and historic political transformation-not just generational. Both domestic and international observers should recognize this truth,” Nidhi wrote.
He added, “Even though I lost the election, I am extremely happy. Congratulations to Balendra Sah!”
Shah, a senior leader of Rastriya Swatantra Party and candidate from Jhapa-5, defeated KP Sharma Oli of the CPN-UML, marking his first parliamentary term. The Rastriya Swatantra Party had fielded Balendra as its prime ministerial candidate during the elections.
