KATHMANDU, Dec 4: The government’s execution of the budget appeared poor as it was able to fully implement only 2.4 percent of the economic agendas announced in the annual budget for fiscal year (FY) 2025/26 in the first three months.
A study carried out by the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) shows that 51 percent of programs witnessed zero progress and 46 percent have been implemented partially.

The progress reports of sectors related to agriculture, tourism, finance, labour and employment, information technology and start ups were nil. According to the CNI, out of 14 economic programs related to energy, infrastructure and urban development, only one has been taken for full implementation.
The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies also appeared pathetic, with the ministry commencing only one out of 27 economic agendas fixed under its jurisdiction. The progress of 17 programs assigned for the ministry was negligible during the review period.
The government announces its annual budget in May end, with a target to implement its financial plans by mid-July. However, the performance in budget utilization remains poor almost every year.
