MANANG, Sept 30: The Marsyangdi River, which was blocked by mud, sand, rocks and pebbles deposited by the swollen Ghattekhola stream after incessant rainfall, is still flowing on both sides of the bridge.
Although the river has partially changed its course and is flowing on both sides of the bridge, it remains dammed, said Assistant Chief District Officer and Information Officer Krishna Prasad Paudel.

“Efforts are underway to release water from the lake formed after the Marsyangdi River was blocked using excavators. A Nepali Army chopper has been transporting fuel needed for the excavators,” he said.
Efforts are being made in coordination with the local, provincial and federal governments in consultation with experts.
Chame Rural Municipality Chief Lokendra Bahadur Ghale said attempts were being made to drain the lake using various equipment, including excavators available at the local level, while taking into account the water flow and associated risks.
Some houses in the surrounding area have been inundated after the river changed its course. Electricity and drinking water supplies, telephone and internet services, and road connectivity have been completely disrupted by floods and landslides.
Meanwhile, locals have been facing difficulties in travelling after a bridge connecting Wards 8 and 9 of Naso Rural Municipality was swept away by the Marsyangdi River flood.
