Eight leftist parties including Maoist Center and Unified Socialist agree on party unification

KATHMANDU, Nov 3: Eight communist parties including the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the CPN (Unified Socialist) have agreed to unite under a single party.



An 18-point agreement was signed on Sunday on behalf of the Maoist Centre Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal and the Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal.

According to the agreement, the official announcement of the unification will be made on November 4 and a national general convention will be organized within six months.


Although the name of the new party has yet to be finalized, the sides have agreed to adopt the five-pointed star as their election symbol. The guiding principles of the new party will be Marxism and Leninism. Until the unification convention is held, a coordinator and a co-coordinator will lead the unified party.


Apart from the Maoist Center and Unified Socialist other parties joining the unification include the Nepal Samajbadi Party, CPN (Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, Nepal Communist Party, CPN (Maoist Socialist), and CPN (Samyabadi).
