KATHMANDU, Sept 26: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal held a meeting with United Nations (UN) Deputy Secretary-General and Head of the Department of Operational Support Atul Khare on Friday.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Matters related to Nepal-UN cooperation and UN peacekeeping were discussed, according to Minister Khanal’s secretariat.

The UN Department of Operational Support provides operational and support services to UN bodies worldwide.
During the meeting, Khanal discussed Nepal’s long-standing and continuous contribution to UN peacekeeping. He emphasized that Nepal has been deploying military and security personnel to various UN peacekeeping missions to contribute to global peace and security and that Nepal’s commitment to peacekeeping will continue.
The two also discussed operational and managerial challenges faced by Nepali peacekeepers during missions, the support required, and ways to make UN peacekeeping missions more effective.
