KATHMANDU, July 30: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) have urged the government to immediately resolve the problems that have arisen in the Terai districts over the past few days through dialogue.
Expressing their serious concerns, the umbrella organizations of the private sector have requested all the concerned parties to maintain social harmony amid the tense situation that has developed in various districts of the Terai in recent days. The violence-affected areas include Kaptanganj, Dewanganj of Sunsari, Birgunj of Parsa along with some areas in Siraha and Saptari districts.
In a statement issued by Acting President Surkrishna Baidya, the umbrella organization of business entrepreneurs across the country paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the incident, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The FNCCI stated that Nepal is a unique example of multi-ethnic, multilingual, multi-religious and multicultural unity, and that since the Terai Madhes region is a center of brotherhood, social harmony and tolerance among various communities, any kind of violence, clashes or social unrest will not benefit anyone.
It has stated that these incidents not only have a serious negative impact on social harmony but also on the daily life of the general public, industry and trade and overall economic activities, so the resolution of differences and misunderstandings is possible only through peaceful talks, dialogue and mutual understanding.
Furthermore, the FNCCI has appealed to the government and local administration to provide complete guarantees of peace and security in the affected areas including Kaptanganj in Sunsari, and has appealed to everyone to stay away from rumors and incitement and further strengthen the social brotherhood that has been maintained since time immemorial.
Similarly, the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has also issued a statement stating that the situation that has arisen in some districts of eastern Nepal after Kaptanganj in Sunsari has raised concerns. The CNI has mentioned that since Nepal is a country that carries the identity of religious tolerance, mutual unity and social harmony, all parties should exercise restraint to preserve it.
Stating that the resolution of any dissatisfaction or dispute is possible through talks and dialogue, not through agitation, violence or confrontation, the CNI has urged everyone to maintain social, religious and communal harmony. In addition, the CNI stated that such incidents have an adverse impact on investment, industry and business, and job creation at a time when the economy is in a challenging situation, and it expressed deep sorrow over the incidents of vandalism, market closures, and looting of public and private property during the protests.
The CNI has also called on its provincial and district associations, as well as other private sector organizations, to be active in peaceful activities such as programs and harmony rallies to promote social harmony, demanding the government to ensure the safety of industrialists, businessmen, and the general public.
