Foreign investors drawn to IT projects in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Foreign investors have recently become increasingly attracted to Nepal’s information technology sector. Of the 1,116 projects received in fiscal year 2082/83 BS, 727 are in the information technology sector alone.



Among the other sectors receiving foreign investment commitments, 63 projects are in manufacturing, four in energy, 18 in agriculture, 227 in tourism, 71 in services and two in infrastructure.

According to the Department of Industry, investors have pledged foreign investment worth Rs 5.8 billion for these projects.


The department reported that around Rs 6 billion had been committed to 842 projects in fiscal year 2081/82 BS.


According to the department’s Information Officer Suresh Dahal, investors choose sectors based on their interests. He said some projects require large amounts of investment, which tends to increase the overall volume of capital committed.
