Prime Minister K P Sharma launched the portal amid a function organized by the Public Procurement Monitoring Office in Kathmandu on Thursday.The portal, which is expected to function as a one-stop platform for bidders is aimed at making public procurement process objective, transparent and convincing.
Speaking at the program, Oli said it is high time the country embraced digitization. "We should lead the country toward rapid development by utilizing modern technologies," he said, adding that the electronic procurement system was essential to make economic activities transparent. "It has established a new practice in the country," added Oli.
On the occasion, PM Oli also provided log-in information of the portal to chiefs of five government departments -- Department of Roads, Department of Irrigation, Drinking Water and Sanitation, and Department of Water Inundation and Control.
These departments can start e-tendering from Thursday itself. Other government offices will use the new portal gradually.
Using the new portal, bidders can prepare their profile and bid for the government tenders, apart from viewing all the governmental procurement activities.
Asian Development Bank (ADB) had provided technical assistance to the Public Procurement and Monitoring Office under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to develop the system that is expected to bring more transparency to the bidding process which is always controversial due to various reasons.
