Govt makes detailed job description mandatory for Nepali migrant workers

KATHMANDU, July 30: Nepali workers seeking overseas employment are now required to submit a detailed description of their jobs as part of the labour approval process.



The Ministry of Youth and Employment introduced the mandatory requirement through a ministerial decision on July 29, according to the ministry.


Under the new provision, workers must specify the nature and scope of their jobs and submit the details to the ministry before leaving for foreign employment.


The ministry has also strengthened the verification of employment agreements signed between workers and foreign employers. The verification will cover terms and conditions of employment, remuneration and other facilities promised to workers.

The measures are aimed at ensuring that Nepali migrant workers have clear information about their jobs and employment benefits before departing for work abroad.
