KATHMANDU, Aug 17: The government’s prize portal has witnessed a sharp rise in consumer participation, with 357,149 transaction bills submitted in the second round of its bimonthly lottery.

According to the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), the first round of the bimonthly lottery—covering the initial 15 days of the current fiscal year (FY 2026/27)—registered only 7,077 bills. In contrast, the second round drew more than 350,000 submissions, reflecting growing public interest in the scheme.

The number of consumers automatically participating through QR-based transactions also rose sharply, climbing from 25.6 million to 32 million during the same period.

From the latest pool of entries, the government selected 17 winners, each awarded Rs 133,334. After tax deductions, winners will receive Rs 100,000 apiece. In addition, one participant was chosen for the bumper prize of Rs 1 million, which is subject to a 25 percent tax.

Officials say the portal’s rising engagement demonstrates the effectiveness of linking consumer transactions with incentives, while also strengthening tax compliance.
