Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population launched the plan amidst a programme organised on the occasion of the World Malaria Day here today. [break]
The government has a policy of providing free and quality health services accessible to eradicate malaria from the country within the next 13 years. Advanced researches on the disease and its treatment would be the top priority of the government, the plan states.
Presently, the government has been launching free anti-malaria campaign, identifying the districts vulnerable to the disease. Distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets and spray of anti-malaria medicines are the parts of the campaign.
According to the Division, 65 districts in hilly and Terai regions are at risk from malaria, the mosquito-borne disease. Cleanliness in and around the house is the best way to keep the disease at bay, doctors say.
The ´World Malaria Day´ is being observed across the globe tomorrow or April 25 under the slogan "Invest in the future, defeat malaria´.
According to statistics made available by the Ministry, around 60,000 suspected malaria patients are found every year in Nepal and of them, 3,000 are confirmed infected from the disease.
Meanwhile in Morang, nine VDCs of Morang district are in the high risk of malaria.
A District Public Health Office report states that of the VDCs in the district, eleven are in risk and nine in high risk.
The VDCs in risk are Letang, Urlabari, Pathari, Hasandaha, Jante, Kerabari, Itahara, Belbari, Bayarban, Haraincha, Madhumalla and Govindpur.
All of them except for Itahara and Belbari are in high-risk, said Morang Senior Public Health Officer Nawaraj Subba.
The office said two years ago there were 83 patients of malaria, last year there were 50 and this year 24 patients have been found by mid –April.
Morang is third malariya-affected district, said Coordinator of the Malaria Control Section Programme, Ramesh Regmi.
