A preview of the website was showcased amidst a press meet held at Union House in Anamnagar, a day ahead of the formal launch on April 12.During the press meet, four short audio-visual stories were screened, too. They were a short fiction film titled 'Happy New Year' by Dipendra Lama; Manoj Pandey's 'Laas ko Aash'; a musical by the Night band, and the visualization of National Poet Laureate Madhav Prasad Ghimire's poem 'Kasto Hunthyo Euta Dhoko Puge' interpreted in the context of post-earthquake Nepal, by Manoj Pandey.
Present during the function as the chief guest, poet Ghimire expressed his happiness over the visual interpretation of his poem. "All of us, especially young people, should focus on helping and comforting those whose lives have been adversely affected by last year's devastating earthquakes," he said, adding that we all should do every little thing we can to preserve the beauty that Nepal has always been.
Speaking at the press meet, Katha Nepal Pvt Ltd's Managing Director Manoj Pandey remarked that the website will prove to be an important platform for everyone who loves telling stories through audio-visual medium. "We hope that young filmmakers and students of film studies can especially reap benefits from hamrokatha.com. In near future, we also plan to provide small grants and technical guidance to aspiring filmmakers," he said.
According to the press release, the portal will upload at least one audio-visual story every day. "The films should be between 4-5 minutes long, because that is about the average time a viewer spends watching videos online in one sitting without getting distracted, according to our research," he said.
The audio-visual stories in the website have been divided into different categories, namely, Social, Fiction, Documentary, and Struggle, among others.
