KATHMANDU, Oct 26: Meteorologist Binod Pokharel has said there is a strong likelihood of a change in weather and the onset of rain across Nepal from Thursday.
Two major weather forecasting models, the Global Forecast System (GFS) and the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), support the rainfall outlook that has been emerging over the past 10 to 12 days, he said.

According to Pokharel, a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal could develop into a cyclone. Current forecasts suggest it may make landfall along the coast of Andhra Pradesh in India before moving north.
By the time the system approaches Nepal, it is likely to weaken into a low-pressure system. Even so, moisture-laden air from the system could interact with a low-pressure trough in the upper atmosphere and trigger heavy rainfall across Nepal, Pokharel said.
Many areas from Gandaki to Koshi provinces are likely to receive heavy rain from Thursday through Friday night, he forecast.
Pokharel said people should pay close attention to district level forecasts to identify where and when the risk may be highest. As the timing, location and intensity of rainfall could change, he advised the public to follow the latest weather updates regularly.
Farmers and people travelling in mountainous areas have been urged to take special precautions in view of the forecast rainfall.
