KATHMANDU, Aug. 17: Monsoon winds continue to influence weather across the country, with heavy rainfall reported in several parts of western Nepal and more rain expected in various provinces today.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD), the monsoon trough is currently around its average position in the east and lies north of its average position in the west, close to Nepal. The Division said the monsoon system is causing rainfall in western Nepal, with excessive rainfall recorded recently in parts of Baitadi, Kanchanpur, Kailali and Bardiya. Excessive rainfall has also been measured in parts of Syangja and Nawalpur, it said.

This afternoon, many places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces and some places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, according to the Division.
Similarly, many places in the Terai areas of Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as some parts of Madhesh and a few places in the Terai areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, are likely to receive moderate rain with thunder and lightning.
Heavy rainfall is likely in some places in the hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as in parts of the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces. The MFD said one or two places in the Terai of Lumbini Province could receive heavy rainfall.
Tonight, some places in the mountainous and hilly areas are likely to receive rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Some places in the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as a few places in Madhesh Province, are also likely to receive moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning.
The rainfall forecast comes as the monsoon remains active across the country, raising the possibility of weather-related disruptions in areas already experiencing heavy precipitation.
