According to Giri, Niraula regained consciousness just hours after undergoing a major brain surgery and asked nurses to bring her makeup kit to the ICU so she could get ready. He said she did not want to look like a sick person and wanted her appearance to give other patients energy and strengthen their desire to live.
“I should not look like a patient. Other patients should also feel energised when they see me, and they should feel the desire to live,” Giri recalled her saying, adding that her words still remain in his mind.
Giri said that even after learning she had a brain tumour, Niraula was more concerned about not causing difficulties for film producers than about her own suffering. He recalled that she put aside her pain the very next day after surgery, smiled and helped complete work that had been put on hold.
According to Giri, just 15 to 20 days after her surgery, Niraula was already saying, “Let’s go to Comedy Champion,” and talking about resuming pending film projects.
He said her courage and confidence revealed a side of Niraula he had never seen before.
“She is someone who always thinks about others, hiding her own pain and giving smiles to others,” Giri wrote in praise of Niraula.
Giri also said Niraula’s example could inspire people with brain tumours, those who have undergone brain surgery and others battling serious illnesses to strengthen their will to live.
Describing the film industry and everyone associated with it as her extended family, Giri said he felt proud to have a friend as loved and caring as Niraula.
