KATHMANDU, Sept 25: Public transport services to and from Kathmandu have been halted after landslides and floods obstructed major highways following incessant rainfall across the country.
The disruption has affected highways connecting the Kathmandu Valley with different parts of the country, causing difficulties for passengers travelling in and out of the capital.
Spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi, said public vehicles had been halted in Kathmandu after vehicular movement was disrupted by landslides at several places along the Prithvi and BP highways.

However, light vehicles have been operating from Kathmandu through the Pharping route, he said.
Pankaj Malla, general manager of Lhotse Multipurpose Pvt Ltd, said public vehicles had been halted at the Gongabu-based New Bus Park since Thursday evening after landslides and floods obstructed highways connecting Kathmandu with different parts of the country.
Incessant rainfall has also been occurring in the Kathmandu Valley since Thursday morning, causing water levels in rivers across the valley to rise. The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has urged vehicle owners not to park their vehicles along river corridors.
Amid the possibility of further heavy rainfall and landslides along major highways, the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs has urged drivers to exercise caution and transport entrepreneurs and drivers to operate services in coordination with security agencies.
Various government agencies have also urged the public to remain alert as heavy rainfall is forecast in different parts of the country from September 24 to 28.
