KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Chief Whip of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), Yuvraj Dulal, has urged the government to immediately restore and fully operationalize the electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system, saying its shutdown has disrupted public procurement and contracting processes across all three tiers of government.
Speaking during Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Dulal said the e-GP system, introduced in 2013 to make public procurement more efficient and transparent, has remained non-operational, affecting procurement activities at the federal, provincial and local levels.

Drawing the government's attention through the Speaker, Dulal noted that Bhadra, Ashoj and Kartik are the peak months for awarding public procurement contracts and that hundreds of procurement processes have been affected by the system outage.
“Hundreds of public procurement processes under the three levels of government are currently affected,” he said.
Dulal also called for an investigation into the alleged hacking of the e-GP system and demanded action against those responsible.
“The government must immediately make the e-GP system fully operational,” he said.
