Investors lose Rs 84 billion as NEPSE sheds 1.79 percent in a week

KATHMANDU, Aug 1: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) last week declined 49.06 points (1.79 percent) amid the low confidence of investors in the country’s share market.



The secondary market opened for trading at 2,734.60 points and closed at 2,685.54 points. During the period, the market rose as high as 2,744.89 points and fell as low as 2,653.23 points, marking the volatility of 91.66 points.

Except on Friday when the index rose by 12.96 points, the market slumped for the remaining four trading days. The largest fall of 33.28 points (1.21 percent) was observed on Monday.


Sector wise, only banking subindex edged up 2.17 points (0.15 percent) as manufacturing and processing dropped 389.63 points (3.53 percent) among the 12 losers.


Among the individual companies, share price of Everest Colour Limited doubled to Rs 1,309.3 per unit, the largest of all. Likewise, the share price of Corporate Development Bank declined 27.70 percent.   


The average daily turnover fell to Rs 4.336 billion from Rs 5.666 billion, marking a decrease of 1.33 percent. Market capitalization also fell to Rs 4.615 trillion from Rs 4.699 trillion, inflicting the investors with a loss of Rs 84 billion in their book value. In the previous week, the investors had capital gains of Rs 99 billion.
