Japan contributes JPY 34.6 million for SAARC youth exchange programme

The Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) signed an addendum to the memorandum on guidelines for the SAARC-Japan Special Fund for JENESYS 2026 on Wednesday.

KATHMANDU, Oct 7: Japan will contribute JPY 34.607 million to support the 2026 edition of the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) programme for SAARC member states.



The Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) signed an addendum to the memorandum on guidelines for the SAARC-Japan Special Fund for JENESYS 2026 on Wednesday.

SAARC Secretary-General Md Golam Sarwar and Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru signed the document in Kathmandu.


Under the programme, around 40 participants from SAARC member states will visit Japan during fiscal year 2026 to learn about disaster management and climate change.


The programme is expected to help participants share and apply lessons on climate resilience and disaster preparedness in their respective countries after returning home.


JENESYS is a youth exchange initiative funded and implemented by the Government of Japan with support from the SAARC Secretariat. It provides young people from SAARC countries an opportunity to visit Japan and gain first-hand exposure to its development, economy, technology, culture and social values.
