Yeti Airlines narrowly escapes accident at Pokhara airport


A Yeti Airline’s aircraft escaped a major accident after it skidded off 20 meters away from the Pokhara Airport’s runway due to a hydraulic failure while taxiing. The plane was carrying 30 passengers from Kathmandu, all of whom are safe.  



Palpa's rural municipality unlikely to meet Zero Home Delivery targets


Pregnant women are opting to give birth at home rather than in health facilities at Purwa Khola rural municipality-1, largely due to unawareness and geographical remoteness. While the move keeps to-be-mothers and their child at higher risks, it also has shadowed the rural municipality’s campaign of ‘Zero Home Delivery’. This fiscal year, 23 women gave birth at home while those seeking safe delivery at health facilities was only 18.

Soru village of Mugu connected to road access


It took 1,500 human laborers without machines and five years to link Soru rural municipality with Gamgadhi, the district headquarter of Mugu. Of the 23 kilometer road stretch, 17 kilometer has been completed. With a road in place, the remaining road section would be completed using machines in two months time.  


Snakebite menace in Bardibas


Snakebite victims are on the rise in Mahottari district after the onset of monsoon and scorching heat. Between May-June this year, 42 people, including 20 women were bitten by snakes, including a four year girl who died in the course of treatment. Bardibas is taken as a major habitat for snakes and scorpions. 


US expected to withdraw from UN Human Rights Council


The Trump administration is expecting to withdraw from the UN Human Rights Council after the UN failed to meet Washington's demands.  The United States has been demanding the UN body to remove its permanent standing agenda item on suspected violations committed by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories. US had boycotted the UN body for three years under President George W. Bush before rejoining under Barack Obama in 2009.


FIFA World Cup 2018: Costa Rica v Serbia (Preview)


Costa Rica and Serbia are ready for lift-off at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia as they arrive in Samara, a city that is famous as Russia's aerospace centre. Costa Rica are coming off an historic Brazil 2014 journey, where they were the Cinderella story of the tournament, advancing all the way to the quarter-finals after getting out of a tough group with England, Italy and Uruguay.  Serbia are back at the world finals for the first time since 2010, where they failed to advance past the group stage despite defeating Germany 1-0 in their second match.
