Rajib Koirala was elected as district president of Nepali Congress in Sunsari on Monday. Newly-elected NC District President Koirala, who is close to the NC establishment, garnered 703 votes. He beat his rival Ram Bahadur Basnet, who is also from the establishment side.
Basnet had filed his candidacy for the district president with the support of Deuba faction members. He received 243 votes.
Kedar Bhandari has once again won the election for the party’s district-level secretary. Pankaj Mehta was elected as treasurer. Both Bhandari and Mehata are from the NC establishment.
Meanwhile, the district convention in Jumla got postponed due to blizzard that started since Sunday.
Likewise, disputes among the members close to the Deuba faction have affected the district convention in Kailali district.
