MUSTANG, Sept 29: Beni-Jomsom road section has been damaged at 46 different places due to landslide, flood, and encroachment following heavy rainfall.
During the meeting of Disaster Management Committee held under chairmanship of chairperson of the District Disaster Management Committee and Chief District Officer Ajita Sharma on Monday, Chief of Korala road project, Tejaswi Sharma, shared that it would take more than a week to bring the road into full operation.
Six sections of Jomsom-Korala road completed
The landslide, flood and inundation by river have damaged the road section at five places along Parbat-Maldhunga section, 16 places from Beni to Rupse of Annapurna Rural Municipality-3 in Myagdi and 25 places from Kavrebhir, the bordering of Myagdi and Mustang, to Korala check point via Jomsom, shared Sharma, presenting the details of damages caused by heavy rainfall and snowfall occurred from September 24-27.
Sharing the information about the condition of road, Project Chief Sharma mentioned that the road at Myagdi section has been completely damaged at some places while the flood washed away approach section of under-construction motorable bridge at Kaligandaki river linking Tatopani-Pakharebagar.
The roads could be brought into operation within a week if adequate human resources and equipment are managed.
Similarly, Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Committee and CDO Sharma stated that coordination with all bodies is underway to bring the obstructed Korala highway into operation at the earliest.
