KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Newly appointed Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav is preparing to seek a vote of confidence in the Madhesh Provincial Assembly on December 19. CM Yadav is set to send a letter to the assembly to hold the confidence vote at 4 PM on Friday.
Province Chief Surendra Labh Karn appointed Nepali Congress (NC) leader Yadav as chief minister on December 5. CM Yadav currently enjoys the support of 77 lawmakers from seven parties—the NC, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, Janamat Party, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP).
Madhesh CM Yadav wins vote of confidence
Despite supporting CM Yadav, the LSP, JSP-Nepal, and NUP have not joined the government.
Previously, two chief ministers were forced to resign after failing to secure a vote of confidence in the Madhesh Provincial Assembly.
Earlier, LSP’s Jitendra Prasad Sonal and UML’s Saroj Kumar Yadav were appointed as Chief Minister but were compelled to resign even before they could take a vote of confidence in the assembly.
